In the heart of the mesmerizing rolling fields, dwelt a shepherd boy. His being was mostly unadulterated, simple, and honest. His primary duty was mainly to care for his herd of rams.
Their low murmuring and the murmuring of the gales through the lone tree on the mountaintop were his only associates. Day in day, looking out for his wards instilled in him a sense of tranquil contentment.
Yet, there were occasional moments of read more solitude, when the shepherd boy would long for companionship. On one such day because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy devised a mischievous plot.
Stories of wild beasts hunting on sheep had been around for a while in the hamlet. So, the boy decided to used this fear and played a joke on the inhabitants.
One morning he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The scared villagers sprinted up the hills to help but saw no beast.
The boy giggled at the dilemma on their faces. This game continued for a couple of more days. Yet, one morning, a real wolf actually charge at the herd. The shepherd boy dashed for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.
Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.
The tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the significance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is tough to earn back. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently.
